Classic sculptures instead of gym weights: at the Volta metro station arrives Physical Culture: Metro Edition, the new permanent work by SUBBRIXIA signed by Lithuanian artist Augustas Serapinas.

A surprising encounter between classical art, physical exercise, and contemporary culture enters the spaces of the Brescia metro.

For SUBBRIXIA, the public art project that brings contemporary art to metro stations, Augustas Serapinas has created a new version of Physical Culture, the series of installations launched in 2012 and presented in important international contexts.

The work consists of fully functional fitness machines, where traditional weights give way to replicas of classical sculptures, made for the first time in aluminum. An unusual juxtaposition that relates two forms of training: that of the body and that of the artist, both based on exercise, repetition, practice, and commitment.

Contemporary art travels by metro

With Physical Culture: Metro Edition, Volta station adds to the artistic map of SUBBRIXIA, which since 2015 has transformed metro stops into spaces to traverse, observe, and discover.

Among other permanent works, you can find Brixia by Marcello Maloberti at FS Station, Gothic Minerva by Patrick Tuttofuoco at San Faustino, Mind the Gap by Nathalie Du Pasquier at Vittoria and BrixiaDue by Andreas Angelidakis at Bresciadue.

A true underground public art path, to be discovered even during city travels.

The presence of Augustas Serapinas in Brescia is also part of the Lithuanian Culture in Italy 2025–2026 program, promoted by the Lithuanian Culture Institute and the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Italy.
