Accessible Brescia

A JOURNEY FOR EVERYONE

Brescia is a city that welcomes all visitors with services designed to guarantee convenient, inclusive and high-quality experiences.

Thanks to the efforts of local institutions and cultural operators, a rich offering of itineraries, facilities and activities allows everyone to fully appreciate the city, from its artistic heritage to everyday mobility.

SERVICES FOR GETTING AROUND

Those with special needs can count on dedicated solutions:

ACCESSIBLE LOCAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT

The metro is fully accessible via lifts, ramps and tactile paving in all stations, ensuring full accessibility to the service.

The buses have lowered platforms, which are also convenient for pushchairs and wheelchairs, and smart poles with audio buttons are installed at bus stops to read information aloud for the visually impaired.

Thanks to a collaboration with the Council’s Social Services Department, Brescia Mobilità also runs a dedicated transport service for the disabled.

MUSEUMS, THEATRES AND CINEMAS

Fondazione Brescia Musei promotes physical, cultural and social accessibility: the majority of venues are barrier-free and, where structural limitations exist, alternative routes and digital tools have been introduced.

Admission to museums and temporary exhibitions is free for visitors with a disability rating of over 67% and for holders of the European Disability Card, and this is extended to an accompanying individual. For those with a level of disability below 67% there is a reduced admission charge.

The Teatro Grande guarantees easy access to the Sala Grande (stalls), the Ridotto (foyer), the Theatre Café and the Sala delle Statue. There is a facilitated entrance on Via Paganora.

With the project "Open. Il Grande accessibile", Teatro Grande theatre promotes initiatives every year to make the Opera and Ballet Season accessible also to people who are blind, deaf, or have cognitive disabilities.
Surtitles, audio descriptions, Italian sign language videos, Italian sign language interpreters, tactile tables, multi-sensory backstage paths and an assistive listening system for the hearing-impaired (Mobile Connect by Sennheiser) make it possible to experience performances in a more inclusive way.

The activities are complemented by workshops dedicated to young people with sensory and cognitive disabilities, in a bid to bring them closer to the world of dance and theatre.

All project initiatives are free of charge. There is also a 50% reduced ticket for accompanying persons.
