SERVICES FOR GETTING AROUND

Those with special needs can count on dedicated solutions:

ACCESSIBLE LOCAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT

The subway is fully accessible via elevators, ramps, and tactile paving in all stations, ensuring full accessibility to the service.

The buses are equipped with low-floor platforms, also useful for strollers and wheelchairs, and at the stops, smart poles with voice buttons are installed to provide information to visually impaired individuals.

Thanks to the collaboration with the Social Services Department of the Municipality, Brescia Mobilità also manages a transport service dedicated to disabled individuals.

Residents in the Lombardy Region who meet specific disability and income requirements can apply for the Io Viaggio Ovunque in Lombardia (IVOL) Reduced Fare Card, which allows travel at a reduced fare on regional public transport services.

ACCESSIBLE PARKING AND ACCESS TO THE LTZ (LIMITED TRAFFIC ZONE)

People with a disabled badge can park for free in the Brescia parking structures.

Before exiting with the vehicle, it is necessary to show the badge at the cashier or communicate its number to the operator via the SOS button on the exit gate column.

The most central parking is the Vittoria Parking. Also, the Arnaldo Parking is located near the Civic Museums, particularly the Santa Giulia Museum and the Archaeological Park of Roman Brescia.

People with disabilities who need to access the ZTL can consult the dedicated page of Brescia Mobilità, which provides the procedures to request permits and authorizations and information on accessing the ZTL.

At the Infopoint, free paper brochures with accessible itineraries of the historic center are also available. The Infopoints are open every day.

MUSEUMS, THEATRES AND CINEMAS

Fondazione Brescia Musei promotes physical, cultural, and social accessibility: most venues are free of architectural barriers and, where structural limitations exist, alternative routes and digital tools have been introduced. Admission to civic museums and temporary exhibitions is free for visitors with a disability greater than 67% and for holders of the European Disability Card, with extension to the companion. For those with a disability less than 67%, reduced admission is provided. The card can be requested online for free on the INPS website and is subsequently sent to the indicated address. Among the accessible proposals of Fondazione Brescia Musei:

The Teatro Grande ensures easy access to the Sala Grande (stalls), the Ridotto, the Teatro Café, and the Sala delle Statue. An accessible entrance is available from Via Paganora.

With the project “Open. The Accessible Grande”, Teatro Grande promotes initiatives every year that make the Opera and Ballet Season accessible also to blind, deaf, or cognitively disabled people.
Subtitles, audio descriptions, LIS videos, LIS interpreters, tactile boards, multisensory backstage tours, and an assisted listening system for the hearing impaired (Sennheiser Mobile Connect) allow for a more inclusive experience of the shows. From 2023, OPEN also aims to bring people with intellectual disabilities and neurodivergences closer to Teatro Grande to make the performance activity understandable and open to everyone.

The activities are complemented by workshops dedicated to young people with sensory and cognitive disabilities, to introduce them to the world of dance and theater. All project initiatives are free. A 50% reduced ticket is also provided for companions.

The Teatro Sociale is free of architectural barriers and ensures easy access for people with disabilities, both in the stalls and in the galleries, which are also accessible by elevator.

The Cinema Moretto has reserved spaces for wheelchairs in all rooms and applies a 50% reduction to Disability Card holders and their companions.

THE CASTLE FOR EVERYONE:

THE CIDNEO LOCOMOTIVE CAN NOW BE EXPLORED BY TOUCH

Brescia Castle takes another step towards truly accessible culture.
A new visual and tactile panel has been installed, dedicated to the Cidneo Locomotive N. 1, one of the hill’s most beloved symbols.

The panel enriches the route “The Castle for Everyone – tactile views from the Cidneo”, created to help blind and visually impaired visitors discover the Castle. Texts in Italian and English, standard lettering and Braille, raised images: every detail is designed to make the visit clearer, more concrete and more shared.

The locomotive is represented in relief alongside a human figure, so visitors can perceive its real proportions and dimensions through touch. A simple, powerful way to bring everyone closer to its story, even without sight.

With this new panel, the route now includes eight installations, from S. Faustino metro station to the Castle and back towards the city. It is a collective project promoted by Lions Club Brescia Leonessa Dieci Giornate and Comitato Amici del Cidneo Onlus, and carried out with the Municipality of Brescia, UICI, Fondazione Brescia Musei, the University of Brescia and CITISLAB.
