In Piazza della Vittoria, something compels you to stop in your tracks.

Huge, suspended in mid-air, and impossible to ignore, it’s called “The Weight of Suspended Time” by Stefano Bombardieri. A work that reflects deeply on the human condition and the perception of time.

THE WORK

A rhinoceros suspended in mid-air, halfway between earth and sky. A powerful, almost unsettling sight. And that’s precisely the point: it speaks to us about ourselves. About our forced pauses, our uncertainties, moments when life seems to be stuck. But also about the silent strength with which, each time, we start again.

The message is clear: we’re suspended, but we’re not standing still.

Conceived almost twenty years ago, this work found a surprising resonance during the pandemic. And today, it continues to speak to us. Of resilience. Of a balance to be sought. Of a weight to be carried, even when you can't see it.

As the artist says: “The rhinoceros becomes us: hanging, constrained, stuck, but always ready to step back on the ground.”

THE ARTIST

Stefano Bombardieri, born in 1968, is from Brescia. The son of sculptor Remo Bombardieri, he learned to get his hands dirty at an early age. His monumental sculptures are never just form, they represent thought, concept, challenge.

Between giant animals, video installations and conceptual art, Bombardieri confronts us with questions that matter. Like the one hovering above Piazza della Vittoria:
what’s the real weight of time?
