Trail n. 4

Trail 4 on Mount Maddalena (Brescia) offers a hiking experience with a strong historical and landscape appeal, perfect for those who want to immerse themselves in a rustic and unartificial environment, while remaining close to the city.

The entrance is near the Evangelical Church, along Via Benacense: here you take the detour towards Via del Canalotto and continue crossing Via Amba d'Oro to Via Mediana, passing the restaurant “Nuovo Nando”. In this area, the area's ancient agricultural vocation is immediately evident: surrounding stones, old farmhouses, and the memory of the peasant activities that once animated the mountain's slopes.

Arriving at the Monastery of the Discalced Carmelites, you then enter the “true” part of the path: a stone staircase, known as the “Scaletera”, leads to steeper, more wooded slopes. The landscape changes and becomes more wild: dry stone walls, stones carved by time, and a forest that becomes almost enveloping.

After passing the “Scaletera”, the path crosses a dense chestnut grove near Cascina Buren and reaches Dosso Torre, where it is the intersection with the other trails (in particular the junction with paths 12 and 3V) - a sign that one has now immersed oneself in the heart of the mountain. From this point, a sunny clearing opens up which also hosts the “Buren take-off”, an ideal panoramic place for a stopover and to enjoy a moment of quiet.

Difficulty: The route alternates steps, woods, ups and downs and sections on more steep slopes. Although not an equipped route, it requires good pace and decent training.

Environment and views: The route offers glimpses of the eastern slope of Mount Maddalena, among ancient farmhouses, stone walls, chestnut groves, and moments of openness to the panorama below.
