The route
Trail 12 starts from Dosso Torre, located at the top of the Gotthard, at an altitude of 469 meters. This starting point is easily accessible by taking Trail 3 or using public transport to Piazzale San Gottardo, from where you continue on foot for about ten minutes along a paved road towards the top of La Maddalena. At the seventh hairpin bend, turn right onto Dosso Torre, where paths 12, 3V and 4 intersect. Following the signs, take Trail 12.
The route winds along the Val del Pericol, a valley that, despite its evocative name(Valley of Danger), offers an evocative natural environment. The path runs halfway up the coast, alternating ups and downs shaped by the valleys of the streams that cut through the valley. It does not present a spectacular start or an epic final goal, but it is configured as a link between different points of interest.
Along the way, various elements of historical and natural interest are encountered. Among these, an ancient pylon that constituted the former cable car used in the past to reach the summit of Maddalena. This pylon, although lacking a true summit, represents a significant landmark along the route.
The trail also offers panoramic views of the valley below and the surrounding vegetation, characterized by mixed forests and wild scrub. The presence of electric pylons along the route adds a distinctive element to the landscape, creating a particular scenario that mixes nature and human intervention.
The route culminates near the Triinale, where Trail 12 crosses Trail 3. From here, you can continue to other destinations or return to your starting point.
