THE THEATER

Founded in the 19th century by Luigi Guillaume as Italy's first permanent equestrian circus, over the years the Sociale has undergone several renovations and hosted all kinds of shows, ranging from plays to operettas, concerts to variety shows. Its history, long marked by fierce rivalry with the Teatro Grande, is rich in famous names and important moments, from evenings with Garibaldi to performances by the great actors and singers of the past, right up to the advent of cinema.

Completely restored on the initiative of the Brescia Theater Center in the 1990s, with an enhancement of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco decorations and the creation of an elegant and comfortable hall, after its reopening on January 24, 2000, the Teatro Sociale has once again become a place that welcomes contemporary themes and languages and a “civil stimulus for the community.”
