A family of travelling actors navigates the war by staging their own lives: fragile, weary, stubborn. Inspired by Kafka's diaries, Lagarce's text speaks of loneliness, old age, desire and survival. It is not theatre within theatre, but theatre of life. With irony and melancholy, the writing eschews realism and constructs a universal narrative. Even when everything collapses, poetry remains. A work that reminds us that thinking, imagining and creating is already a form of resistance.
