Lake Iseo

Lake Iseovisitlakeiseo.info
Lake Iseo, also called Sebino, extends between the provinces of Brescia and Bergamo and is one of the naturalistic jewels of Lombardy. Its clear waters, picturesque villages, Franciacorta vineyards and the surrounding pre-Alpine mountains create a harmonious landscape, capable of combining nature, culture and relaxation.
In the centre of the lake stands Monte Isola, the largest lake island in Europe, which is itself one of the main tourist attractions in the area.
HOW TO GET THERE
Lake Iseo is easily accessible from different directions thanks to its central location between Brescia and Bergamo. By car it is served by the A4 Milan–Venice motorway, with recommended exits at Rovato, Palazzolo sull’Oglio and Ospitaletto, from which one continues towards the lake. By train, the Brescia–Iseo–Edolo railway line conveniently connects the city of Brescia with the main coastal resorts, including Iseo, Pisogne and Sulzano. By coach or bus there are regular connections from Brescia station and other neighbouring cities. For those travelling by bicycle, the Sebino is easily accessible thanks to cycle paths that connect the lake to Franciacorta and Valle Camonica, offering a panoramic itinerary even before arriving on its shores.

MAIN PLACES
- Iseo
The true beating heart of Brescia’s shore, Iseo combines elegance and liveliness. Its historic centre houses monuments such as the Pieve church of Sant’Andrea, the Church of Santa Maria del Mercato and the Oldofredi Castle. Piazza Garibaldi, with its cafés and shops, is the liveliest meeting point, while the lakeside promenade invites one to scenic strolls. From here ferries and guided tours depart to Monte Isola. - Pisogne
At the north-eastern end of the lake, Pisogne combines art and nature. It is famous for the Church of Santa Maria della Neve, with frescoes by Romanino, known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Poor”. In the surrounding area one can take the Vello–Toline cycle path and the Antica Strada Valeriana, among the most evocative stretches of the Sebino. - Zone
Overlooking the lake, Zone is famous for the Earth Pyramids, spectacular rock columns shaped by erosion. It is also an ideal village for family hikes and walks, thanks to places such as the Gnome Forest. - Marone
Known as the “City of Oil”, Marone overlooks the eastern shore and combines agricultural tradition with a tourist vocation. It is the starting point of the Vello–Toline cycle and pedestrian path and the Oil Road (Strada dell’Olio), a food and wine itinerary that celebrates local agricultural products. - Sale Marasino
An important connection point with Monte Isola, Sale Marasino is home to exceptional churches, such as San Zenone and Sant’Antonio Abate, as well as beaches and piers. From Punta Almana one can enjoy one of the most extensive views of the lake. - Sulzano
Internationally known for having hosted Christo’s art installation “The Floating Piers” in 2016, Sulzano is the main port of access to Monte Isola. - Monte Isola
The largest lake island in Europe is a place free of cars, to be discovered on foot or by bike. Picturesque villages such as Peschiera Maraglio, Sensole, Siviano and Carzano offer authentic views, while the Shrine of the Madonna della Ceriola overlooks from above with a breathtaking view. Not to be missed is the Fishing-Net Museum, the tradition of drying sardines and the boat ride around the island, which also allows one to admire the private islands of San Paolo and Loreto. - Pilzone d’Iseo
From here starts the Antica Strada Valeriana, ideal for panoramic trekking. The resort is also appreciated for its beaches, including a pet-friendly one, and for the Giant Bench of Pilzone, with spectacular views of the Sebino. - Provaglio d’Iseo
It houses the evocative Monastery of San Pietro in Lamosa, founded in 1083 and overlooking the Torbiere del Sebino, a protected natural area of 360 hectares that is home to numerous species of migratory birds. This territory combines spirituality, art and biodiversity.
