The route
Trail 9 winds along the slopes of the western slope of Mount Maddalena, starting just above Costalunga, near the bridge over the Garzetta stream and Villa Lucchi. It is precisely at that point that the starts of paths 8 and 9 meet; while number 8 continues straight, number 9 turns left, following a path that moves away from the asphalt towards the woods.
Leaving the short paved section, the path descends into a forest that already appears marked by time: the vegetation appears neglected in some sections, with brambles and shrubs occupying the path space. However, nature has an indomitable charm: trees such as ash, hawthorn, hop hornbeam, rowan and others populate the stretch.
Proceeding, you reach the part of the route dedicated to the Astolfo Lunardi Nature Trail, with information panels illustrating the vegetation (“Medolo”, tree types, typical shrubs) and the geology of the slope.
Further on, the trail meets a brick hunting lodge under a large chestnut tree, from which point the route takes on an evocative name: Sentér dei Ròcoi. From there the climb becomes more gentle, until the junction with the DH Margherita, after which the path continues on a flatter path, immersed in the woods, until it joins with Path 5 which climbs from Roccolo Malga Rita and the Fontanelle Valley. A little further on, you can see the Margherita farmhouse, which marks the finishing point for those who travel on the 9th.
