Trail n. 1

Trail 1 of Monte Maddalena begins in Brescia, on Via Cesare Noventa, near the bridge over the Baldovera stream. From there the Via Crucis (also called “High Way of Love”) starts, which serves as the main route and connects the various stages with crucifixes along the way.

From the starting point, you cross a green picnic area (in the Carobbio Valley), pass Forte Cagna and the Sant'Eufemia rock gym, until you enter the path that climbs in a zigzag pattern immersed in crucifixes. You reach “Golgota di Caccia”, where there is a small Madonna who, according to local tradition, “recites prayers” addressed to the Silvestri people. Nearby there is a large cross hanging from the ruins near Forte Garibaldi.

Continuing towards the western area of Mount Masheda, you cross rocky terrain with typical vegetation: pines, local trees such as dog cherry, hawthorn, blackthorn, etc. Along the route you can also see the “Bus de la Spolverina” (a cave/place from which the inhabitants historically obtained limestone) and, further on, the intersection with path 15.

The trail climbs through meadows, dunes, woods, up to the Monte Poffia saddle. Shortly before arrival, it intersects with paths 2 and 14, which briefly share a section, before separating. In the final part there is also an old CAI shelter, called “the silent giant”, and a large panoramic lawn.

Along the way, you can enjoy beautiful views of the city of Brescia, the plain, the surrounding mountains, Garda, the marble quarries, even Montichiari airport and the A21 motorway, in the most open sections.
