The route
Trail 15 starts from Caionvico, behind the Church of Santi Faustino e Giovita, and follows a panoramic hillside that offers spectacular views over the city of Brescia and the surrounding vineyards. With a length of approximately 3.4 km and a positive elevation gain of 300 metres, the route can be completed in around 45 minutes and is suitable even for less experienced hikers, thanks to its easy difficulty rating.
Along the way, the trail crosses lush woodland and limestone terrain, showcasing a variety of geological features typical of karst areas. Among the main natural attractions are the Le Mura rock gym, known for its different climbing sectors, Tampa Cave, and the Sella del Monte, which marks the junction with Trail 1. The area contains around 40 natural cavities, including shafts, caves and sinkholes, evidence of geological processes that have been ongoing for over 200 million years.
The flora along the route includes chestnut woods and olive groves, while the landscape opens up to breathtaking views over Carobbio Valley and the city. The combination of nature, geology and outdoor sport makes Trail 15 ideal for those seeking a relaxing walk with the chance to stop and admire rock formations or enjoy some climbing at Le Mura.
The trail is especially recommended in spring and autumn, when you can enjoy mild temperatures and seasonal colours. It is important to wear hiking shoes and bring water and sun protection. Those wishing to extend the hike can continue along Trail 1, expanding both the route and the overall experience of exploring Mount Maddalena.
