The garden of ancient Brixia. From the Domus dell'Ortaglia, the gaze opens onto a green that spans the centuries. In Brescia, where archaeology becomes experience.
THE REBUILT ROMAN GARDEN
Excavations have brought to light the gardens of Roman houses: quadrangular spaces now recreated to convey the atmosphere of two thousand years ago. Next to the vegetable garden with vine, fig, apple and pomegranate, the Viridarium takes shape, an ornamental garden with boxwood, laurel, myrtle and ancient roses. Between stone paths and Roman finds, greenery dialogues with history.
BETWEEN ANCIENT AND CONTEMPORARY
The Viridarium also houses works of contemporary art: Michelangelo Pistoletto, Emilio Isgrò, Francesco Vezzoli. Nature, archaeology and art stand together here, without forcing. The past remains, but it moves.
The last speech is “Nike Metafisica” by Francesco Vezzoli. A tribute that becomes a reinterpretation: the Nike of Samothrace changes perspective, crosses the twentieth century and allows itself to be looked at with new eyes.
