The arch that spans the centuries. An ancient passageway in the heart of the city. In Brescia, history walks beneath a stone vault.
THE TOWER
The Porta Bruciata Tower is located between Piazza della Loggia and Via dei Musei, in one of the most historically significant areas of the city center. It was once one of the main gateways to the city, along the ancient route that connected Brescia to Milan.
Its name derives from a great fire in 1184 that devastated large parts of the medieval town. Since then, “Bruciata” (burnt) has remained in the place name, a living memory of an episode that marked the city.
During the 13th century, the gate was rebuilt and fortified. The Ghibelline battlements and the large cross vault connecting the square to Via dei Musei, one of the most evocative passages in the historic center, are still visible today.
Next to the tower is the church of San Faustino in Riposo, another sign of the urban stratification that makes this place unique.
The Torre di Porta Bruciata is not just a monument: it is a daily passageway, an authentic fragment of medieval Brescia that continues to live on in the fabric of the contemporary city.
