The mark of an era in the heart of Brescia. A tower that tells the story of the city’s transformation. In Piazza della Vittoria, an architectural landmark rises, intertwining urban history and collective memory.

THE TOWER

Revolution Tower stands in the historic centre of Brescia, at the corner of Piazza della Vittoria. Designed by architect Marcello Piacentini as part of the major urban redevelopment plan carried out between 1927 and 1932, the tower forms an integral part of the square’s monumental façade, together with the INA Tower (Torrione INA) and the Post Office building (Palazzo delle Poste).

Its name and location reflect the architectural and symbolic language of the Fascist era, when Piazza della Vittoria was conceived as a space of national representation. Massive in form and topped with a clock, the tower once overlooked the square with a high relief depicting Benito Mussolini on horseback — an element removed after the Second World War along with other regime symbols.

Beneath the tower stands the Arengario, made of red Tolmezzo stone, formerly used as a platform for speakers during public gatherings. The cycle of marble bas-reliefs decorating it is dedicated to key moments and figures in the city’s history, from the Roman period to the Ten Days of Brescia in 1849.

Today, Revolution Tower is a historic landmark that reflects the city’s transformations throughout the twentieth century. It stands as testimony to 1930s Rationalist architecture and to the way Brescia has intertwined art, politics and urban space through its square and buildings.
