Pallata Tower

In the heart of the historic center, between medieval alleys and squares steeped in history, stands the Torre della Pallata. 32 meters high, massive, in Botticino stone and medolo: it is one of the most recognizable symbols of Brescia. Once defended. Today living memory.
THE TOWER
Built in 1254 to protect the Porta di San Giovanni, it is the only survivor of the first medieval city walls.
The name? Maybe from a palisade, maybe from “Pallas Athena”. How to say, between wood and myth.
Over time it has changed face and function. After the siege of 1311, it guarded the Treasury of the Monte di Pietà. Then, in the Renaissance, the look was redone: clock (1461), terracotta battlements, turreted tower.
And on the west side, since 1597, the Fountain of the Rivers: statues that tell the story of the Mella and the Garza. Or maybe Garda and Iseo.
However you put it, it's beauty flowing.
And precisely because this story continues, the Tower has never stopped.
The latest restoration work involved the Renaissance turret, the tallest and most fragile part: today it has been restored, consolidated, and made seismic safe.
A long job, started years ago, made to last. And to give back to the city a more solid, more legible, more alive symbol.
Today, as yesterday, Pallata continues to tell the story of Brescia's strength, identity, and ability to care for its history. And carry it on.
