In Brescia, sport has its own temple.

It’s the Mario Rigamonti Stadium, in the Mompiano district, where football, history and true passion are woven together. Inaugurated on 19 September 1959, it’s been home to Brescia Calcio for over sixty years. But rather than a stadium, it’s been a constant for entire generations.

The stadium

The name of the stadium wasn’t picked randomly. It’s a tribute to Mario Rigamonti, a Brescian footballer of the Grande Torino who tragically died in the Superga air disaster. His name has lived on here ever since. Not on a commemorative plaque. But in every chant, in every game, in every memory.

Over the years, the Rigamonti has changed look several times. Renovated in 2010 and 2019, it now has a capacity of 19,500 seats, a covered central grandstand, prefabricated upper tier and corner stands, sky-boxes, new seats, training fields in the “Antistadio” and a natural grass pitch.

In addition to the matches of Brescia Calcio before and Union Brescia now, the stadium has hosted events that have gone down in history: matches starring the Italian national team, international rugby matches, legendary concerts by Vasco Rossi, David Bowie, Elton John, Ligabue, and in 1998 the celebration with Pope John Paul II for the beatification of Giuseppe Tovini

The Mario Rigamonti Stadium remains a symbol. Of sport that is taken seriously, of a city that rallies around its team, of a passion that lives on. A vital piece of Brescia, where the heart of the stand beats strong.
