Fura square is a cosy and authentic urban space in the fabric of Brescia. A place of passage and encounter that reflects the everyday life of the city, where residents and visitors can stop, cross the neighbourhood and experience a corner of Brescia away from the more touristy routes.
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Chiesanuova is a neighbourhood located south-west of Brescia's historic centre, between the western ring road, the southern ring road, Via Dalmazia and the railway freight yard area. It is an area of the city that combines history, tradition and urban development.
The name of the neighbourhood probably derives from the “new” church built at the beginning of the 17th century at the behest of Bishop Gradenigo and consecrated in 1629. For many centuries, the area was fertile agricultural land, rich in irrigation canals that favoured abundant production and the presence of important farmhouses and rural dwellings, some of which are still visible today.
Starting in the 1960s, the neighbourhood underwent significant building expansion, thanks in part to affordable housing programmes. Today, Chiesanuova is characterised by a balance between residences and small businesses, with a prevalence of low-density two- and three-family homes.
In the 1970s, the new church in Via della Noce was built, designed by architects Fasser, Mettifogo, Rubagotti and Simeoni, which is one of the neighbourhood's landmarks.
