Overlooking Piazzetta Sant'Alessandro, Martinengo Colleoni di Malpaga Palace is one of the greatest symbols of Brescian aristocratic elegance. Today it houses the MO.CA cultural centre, but its walls tell of centuries of art, power and transformation.
THE PALACE
Built in the 16th century by the Martinengo Colleoni family, a union between the noble Brescian family and the house of the famous condottiere Bartolomeo Colleoni, the palace has grown over the centuries through restorations and extensions, becoming a veritable architectural time machine and charting travels from Renaissance rigour to Baroque opulence.
Two monumental entrances, a Baroque fountain, a colonnaded courtyard and frescoed interiors: every detail is a piece of history
Notable features include the monumental staircase, noble gallery, the ballroom and reception rooms, once divided between Ladies and Gentlemen. The private apartments, decorated in different styles, narrate the continuous evolution of the residence and the city.
Today, as then, this palace is a meeting point for creative minds. From aristocratic residence to home of contemporary art.
