Born from an extensive work of historical research and curatorial design, the Museum of the Risorgimento offers an innovative exhibition itinerary that tells the story of the epic saga of Italian Unification, interweaving local movements and European history. Paintings, sculptures, relics and digital collections guide visitors through the events that led to the formation of the Italian State.
THE MUSEUM
The heart of the Museum is the section dedicated to the Ten Days (23 March – 1 April 1849), a historic event of national importance in which the city played a leading role through the fierce resistance of the people of Brescia against the Austrian troops—an episode that earned Brescia the title of “Lioness of Italy”.
This event, set within the broader context of the two-year wave of uprisings that shook Europe between 1848 and 1849, is narrated through paintings, military uniforms, everyday objects and multimedia installations, including an original immersive box that allows visitors to relive the atmosphere of those days of struggle alongside emblematic figures such as the patriot from Brescia, Tito Speri.
Perfectly balancing educational practice and participatory experience, the Museum of the Risorgimento is committed to historical outreach through an approach that combines objects, images and storytelling, giving a tangible and immersive form to the memory of the protagonists who helped build modern Italy.
