MITA International Museum of Ancient CarpetsVia Privata de Vitalis, 2 bis - Brescia BSFondazione Tassara

Housed in a recently renovated former foundry in Brescia's youngest and most multi-ethnic neighborhood, the MITA – International Museum of Ancient Carpets displays more than 1,300 textile artifacts produced between the 15th and 20th centuries and originating from Europe, Africa, and Asia.

THE MUSEUM

A museum project curated by the Tassara Foundation, MITA was created to enable the conservation, study, and exhibition of the extraordinary Zaleski collection, one of the most complete of its kind in the world.

The structure, which also includes a climate-controlled storage facility and a restoration laboratory, features architecture that combines lightness and sustainability and consists of a series of different spaces that add multimedia rooms and reading rooms to the exhibition hall, as well as areas dedicated to concerts, workshops, and meetings.

For visitors, MITA is not just a museum, but a dynamic cultural center in which to explore the universal language of carpets, a space that allows them to discover (and in many cases reevaluate) a millennial art capable of generating meaningful comparisons between cultures, eras, and traditions.
