The “Luca Marenzio” music conservatory represents the heart of advanced music education in Brescia.
Founded in 1864 as a private institute to make music accessible to all, it became state-run in 1971 and took the name Marenzio in 1993. Since 1999, thanks to Law 508, it has been treated as a university.
THE CONSERVATORY
The conservatory is located in the centre of Brescia, in Piazza Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, next to the Auditorium San Barnaba. Occupying a former Augustinian monastery and a 19th century building, the conservatory combines ancient cloisters and modern rooms for study, concerts and ensemble rehearsals.
Highlights include the Salon Pietro da Cemmo, with excellent acoustics and original 15th-century decorations, the Bazzini, Marcello and Rossini halls, with historical instruments, and the municipal auditorium, for large-scale events.
The Marenzio holds a library of over 26,000 volumes, with rare manuscripts and autographs by Mozart, Haydn, Clementi and other greats. He is part of the SBN Lombardia network and edits two editorial series dedicated to unpublished music and musical essays.
In addition to its headquarters, the conservatory is located in Darfo Boario Terme, inside the former Querinian Convent, with classrooms and an auditorium for concerts and educational activities. A strong presence in the area, between tradition, training and the future.
