Church of San Pietro in OlivetoVia del Castello, 10 - Brescia BS

Set on the eastern flank of the Cidneo Hill, San Pietro in Oliveto isn’t just a church. It’s a living piece of Brescian history.
With medieval roots and centuries of transformations, today it’s one of the city's most authentic and fascinating religious sites. It’s a monastery that has withstood sieges, restorations and revolutions, its spiritual strength unscathed.

THE CHURCH

San Pietro in Oliveto, nestled among the stones of the Cidneo Hill, chronicles more than a thousand years of history. Once surrounded by olive trees, today it’s home to memories, art, and spirituality.

Founded in the 8th century, it has seen Augustinian rule, military sieges, Renaissance reconstructions and modern restorations. It withstood everything from the Napoleonic ravages to its rebirth in the 19th century under the Discalced Carmelites.

Inside, the single nave and dome draw the eye upwards. There are twelve busts of the apostles, a polychrome altar, and a bronze statue of St. Peter that recalls the Vatican. And then cloisters, silence and stories engraved in Botticino marble.
