The Corte dei Polini, also known as Curt dei Pulì, is a charming historical courtyard located at the start of Corso Mameli in Brescia.
THE COURT
The story goes that a nobleman of the Polini family, forced to leave Piedmont because of a duel with a prince of Savoy, settled in Brescia and bought several houses between Via Rossovera and Corso Mameli, which gave rise to the so-called “Corte dei Polini”.
Older documents indicate instead that the owner was a leather merchant, Domenico Polini, whose descendants built the palace of the same name in Via Moretto in the 18th century.
From the surrounding dwellings, including one with a large roof-terrace, numerous windows overlook the inner courtyard. The portico, characterised by five lowered arches, Ionic capitals and cross vaults, elevates the building.
Two fountains can still be admired today in the courtyard square: a medieval drinking trough that once served the entire courtyard, and a second wall fountain with neoclassical lines.
